The IRM Moléculaire (IRM2) was founded in 2016 by Yannick Crémilleux (DR CNRS) and Noël Pinaud (IE CNRS) at the Institut des Sciences moléculaire (ISM, Unité mixte de recherche 5255 CNRS, Université de Bordeaux). The Molecular MRI team is part of the PMCI (Photonique Moléculaire, Chémobiologie et Imageries) research group at the ISM
The research activities of the IRM2 team focus on biomedical applications of MRI and MRS. The IRM2 team is particularly committed to the development of innovative methodologies and instrumentation in the field of molecular and metabolic MRI. In this scientific area, the team aims to contribute to the improvement of medical diagnosis by MRI, to the understanding of pathological phenomena and to more fundamental questions in basic research.

The team is located on the Life Sciences Campus of the University of Bordeaux, close to the University Hospital of Bordeaux. It benefits from easy access to the University's biomedical imaging infrastructure and research facilities (MRI for clinical and preclinical research, in vivo and ex vivo imaging and analysis platforms).
